C4 Experts Present at Child, Adolescent & Young Adult Behavioral Health Conference

Experts from C4 are presenting at the Annual Research & Policy Conference on Child, Adolescent, & Young Adult Behavioral Health from March 4-6, 2019 in Tampa, Florida.

Carmela DeCandia, Ph.D., of Artemis Associates and Rosie Donegan, Research Coordinator at C4, are presenting about “Using an Ecological Perspective to Screen Young Children for Developmental Risk and Resilience” from 10-10:30 am on March 4. The paper presentation will focus on the Neurodevelopmental Ecological Screening Tool (NEST). DeCandia, Donegan, and Katie Volk, C4 Senior Project Director, have been leading the development of NEST for children ages 3-5. It helps service providers and parents in low-resource environments assess how a child is developing and identify ways to minimize risk factors and build resilience.

Kathleen Ferreira, Ph.D., Director of Research and Evaluation at C4, and Donegan are presenting “Amplifying Futures: Young Adult Peers in Adolescent Substance Use Brief Intervention” from 10-10:30 am on March 5. The paper presentation will share information about Project Amp, a brief mentorship intervention pairing young adults in recovery with adolescents to prevent substance use and enhance resiliency.

Ferreira is also presenting with Lisa Lambert of Parent/Professional Advocacy League on “The Journey: A Proposed Framework for Conceptualizing Family Advocacy Skills” from 10-10:30 am on March 6. The paper presentation will propose a framework for developing family advocacy skills to support families of children with mental health needs.

The conference is sponsored by Child & Family Studies at the University of South Florida and partners.
