SUMMARY:Harm Reduction Training
DESCRIPTION:This training will include a review of the basic principles and practices of harm reduction\, an overview of why it works\, sample harm reduction strategies\, and interactive activities to enhance learning. Harm reduction is a philosophy and set of strategies that seeks to minimize harm associated with high-risk behaviors while supporting positive\, incremental behavior change. The harm reduction approach believes all people are capable of change and will do so when they are ready and when circumstances allow. It uses compassion\, dignity\, respect\, and consistent positive regard to promote healing and long-term recovery. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the core tenants of the harm reduction approach\nExplain why harm reduction works to increase recovery outcomes\nDescribe high-risk behaviors and corresponding harm reduction strategies\nExplain how motivational conversations play a key role in the harm reduction approach\n\n*If this date does not work for you\, the same training will also be held on August 29 and October 3. \nCost: $20 \nRegistration & More Info: ritta.skilljar.com/harm-reduction-july-21-2025-in-person-amos-house \nTrainer: \nElizabeth Black\, LADC\, has spent her career working with and on behalf of people with behavioral health disorders. She holds a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Ms. Black serves as subject matter expert\, trainer\, and technical assistance provider for behavioral health and recovery initiatives.  Her areas of interest and expertise include harm reduction\, medication for opioid use disorder\, rural healthcare systems\, and health and wellness in recovery.  Prior to her current role at C4 innovations\, Ms. Black worked for the Department of Mental Health for the state of Oklahoma for over a decade. In her work there\, she oversaw the implementation of health and wellness interventions into behavioral health services statewide. In that role\, her team received a governor’s commendation for their work which resulted in better health outcomes in Oklahoma’s most vulnerable communities. She currently resides in Quincy\, MA.
