SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change
DESCRIPTION:We often hear the expression\, “Meet people where they are”\, but what does that actually mean? How can we skillfully do this without losing sight of the forward growth and change that will lead them to their best life? \n  \nThe Trans-theoretical Model\, commonly known as the Stages of Change\, describes the states humans find themselves in as they consider\, make\, and maintain changes. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a flexible communication tool kit that promotes connection\, collaboration\, and mobilizes inner and outer resources. This highly interactive\, intermediate-level training integrates the two\, provides practice in identifying the Stage of Change as it shifts\, and offers a menu of practical MI skills to work effectively within each stage. \n  \nObjectives \n\nIntroduce the Transtheoretical Model\nLearn to use client language and behavior to identify Stages of Change\nReview MI Spirit’s role in creating impactful\, supportive relationships\nPractice stage-specific MI interventions\n\n  \nPrerequisites \nPrevious MI training and/or working knowledge of MI Spirit\, OARS skills\, and Change Talk. \n\n  \nLearn more and register! \n\n  \nAdditional Training: Motivational Interviewing I on April 14 and Motivational Interviewing II on April 21. \n  \nTrainer \n\nLisabeth Gutierrez Bennett\, NBC-HWC\, NCTTP\, NCNTT\, Training Director\, CODAC Behavioral Healthcare\, administers CODAC’s Motivational Interviewing training initiatives and oversees programs related to tobacco and nicotine treatment. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)\, developing and facilitating training tailored to a wide variety of medical\, behavioral health\, and social service agencies nationwide. Her boots-on-the-ground experience translates into impactful\, practical training programs that help participants increase their competence and confidence when helping others. \n  \nWith a clinical background in health coaching\, she holds the National Board Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching\, National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice\, and National Certification in Nicotine and Tobacco Treatment. Beth is a trainer for the internationally accredited Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) certification and co-author of the University of Massachusetts Medical School TTS training curriculum.
