Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)/Medication-Assisted Recovery (MAR)
A person in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) uses medications as part of their recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD). For members of the recovery community, medication-assisted recovery (MAR) can be a preferred term because this emphasizes a person’s commitment to recovery while using medications.
For many people with OUD, medication is a life-saving component of their recovery. In combination with psychosocial services and other recovery supports, medications can help to reduce opioid misuse and overdose, increase engagement in services and supports, and improve a person’s outcomes.
C4 Innovations supports local, state, and national efforts to improve access to MAT/MAR and recovery supports, and to facilitate understanding and integrate strategies that support multiple recovery pathways.
