Erika Simon, MA, leads multimedia production at C4 Innovations. Her expertise includes instructional design and all phases of the production process: video and audio capture and editing; photo/text narratives and podcasting; writing scripts and content; directing and casting talent; media management; and collaborating with subject matter experts, freelance, and in-house talent on cinematography, animation, musical composition, and graphic design.
Prior to joining C4 Innovations in 2012, she produced award winning online learning products at Vida Health Communications, Inc. She completed a Lewis Hine Documentary Fellowship focused on youth leadership amidst youth violence in Boston. In 2004, she co-founded the Summer Documentary Video Institute at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. She also taught video editing for 9 years in Duke’s Continuing Studies program.
Erika’s awards include the Warren Staebler Award for English and the Arts; Lucia Morgan Memorial Award for Communication and Community Service; Martha Nell Hardy Award for Outstanding Teaching; and Mary Jane Bachtel Award in Creative Writing. Her short film, Gemini World, garnered an Audience Award from Carrboro Film Festival and Best Documentary Award from American Film Festival. She is a member of Women in Film & Video New England, Massachusetts Production Coalition, and Alliance for Media Arts & Culture.
Prior to entering the worlds of video production and digital learning, Erika was an editorial assistant and archivist at The Sun magazine. There she laid the foundation for moving 30 years of print content online by establishing a keyword searchable digital archive. She was Assistant Director of a service-learning program at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, liaising and conducting site visits with more than 20 internships across North Carolina. As Assistant Director for Administration, Natural Products Laboratory, School of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Erika served as primary liaison for international collaborations with 60 active scientists worldwide who used theories of traditional Chinese medicine for new anti-HIV and anti-cancer drug discovery.
She has a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a certificate in documentary arts from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
